If your home has a rooftop HVAC unit, Hunter Super Techs can repair, maintain, or replace it when something goes wrong. We work on residential rooftop systems throughout Southern Oklahoma, North Texas, and the Texoma region.

What Is a Residential Rooftop HVAC Unit?

A rooftop unit, or RTU, puts the main HVAC components together in one cabinet on the roof. Instead of having part of the system inside and another part outside, everything the system needs to heat or cool the air is housed in one place.

When there is a problem with your heating, we can access the heating components from the rooftop unit. The same is true for air conditioning problems because the cooling equipment is also located in the cabinet.

Some homes were built with this setup because there is little room for HVAC equipment on the ground or because the ductwork was designed for a rooftop system.

Signs Your Rooftop HVAC Unit Needs Attention

You will often notice a problem inside the house before you know what is happening on the roof. Rooms may feel warmer or colder than the thermostat setting, airflow may get weaker, or the unit may start turning on and off more frequently.

Listen for new rattling, grinding, or squealing too. Water stains near the ceiling or around the unit's location need attention because the problem could involve the condensate drain, drain pan, or area around the roof curb.

If the system cannot keep the house comfortable, we need to get on the roof and find out why.

Rooftop HVAC Unit Repair

When we inspect a residential rooftop unit, we start with the symptoms you have noticed inside. Then we check the equipment for the cause.

Depending on the problem, we may find a failed capacitor, compressor trouble, a damaged blower motor or belt, a clogged condensate drain, refrigerant leaks, or problems with the thermostat and controls. Units equipped with an economizer can have problems with its dampers or controls too.

Rooftop placement changes the service call. Our technicians need safe roof access so we can inspect the equipment, cabinet, and the area where the unit meets the roof.

Rooftop HVAC Unit Replacement

If a rooftop unit keeps breaking down or needs a major repair, we will talk through repair versus replacement before you put more work into the existing system. We look at its age, repair history, refrigerant type, condition, and what has failed.

Replacing rooftop equipment takes planning. The new unit has to work with the existing roof opening and ductwork. A curb adapter may be needed if the new unit does not match the existing roof curb, and getting the equipment on and off the roof can require a crane or lift.

For a rooftop hvac installation, we check the roof curb, duct connections, equipment size, and roof access before the replacement starts. Financing is available for qualifying projects.

Preventive Maintenance for Rooftop HVAC Units

A roof puts HVAC equipment directly in the sun, wind, rain, hail, and changing temperatures. We check the parts that take consistent wear before they cause trouble during a hot or cold stretch.

Preventive maintenance can include checking filters and coils, blower belts, electrical components, the refrigerant circuit, condensate drain and pan, cabinet, and roof curb. We look for wear, leaks, loose connections, and other problems that need attention.

Joining our Super Comfy Club gives homeowners a way to keep up with routine HVAC maintenance instead of trying to remember when the rooftop unit was last checked.

Why Rooftop Unit Service Is Important in Texoma

Summer heat in Texoma puts long hours on cooling equipment sitting in direct sun. Spring storms bring wind, heavy rain, and hail. Winter can bring another round of hard use when temperatures fall.

Those conditions affect rooftop systems across Ada, Ardmore, Durant, Denison, and surrounding communities. Pre-summer and pre-winter checks give us a chance to find problems before the unit is working through the toughest weather of the season.
